You are Welcome Here in Our Diverse and Inclusive Community

Our Open and Affirming Statement

Uplands Village is a community that rejoices in the spirit of unity, which rallies us to our mission of living compassionately while promoting justice and peace, healing and fullness of life, within the Uplands community and beyond.

We celebrate the diversity of tradition, spiritual gifts and understanding among us, and we welcome as full participants in the Uplands community persons of every ethnic origin, race and nationality; every gender, gender identity and sexual orientation; every religious persuasion (or none); and every marital standing or family structure.

We invite each to share in the life and fellowship, work and responsibilities, blessings and joys of this community as we continue to grow together in faith and love.

LGBT Adults and Aging

Inclusivity and equality are integral to the Uplands Village way of life. That’s why Uplands Village earned Platinum Certification in SAGECare, a cultural training program for organizations that serve older adults. SAGE is the country’s largest, and oldest, organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults.

The Platinum Certification means that 80 percent of Uplands Village employees and executive staff have completed cultural competency training to understand the specific concerns and challenges of older LGBT adults. United Church Homes, our management partner, also holds the SAGECare Platinum Certification.

We Advocate for the Rights of All People

Our socially responsible residents are advocates for the rights of all people. They’ve made a difference in the lives of others in the community at large and to our Uplands family, as well. You’ll find Uplanders volunteering in our healthcare neighborhoods, spending time with residents of Fletcher House and Wharton Homes.

To date, Uplands residents have introduced more than a dozen new social service agencies in and around Cumberland County, Tennessee. They’ve founded area organizations, served on local boards, become active in projects that nourish the spirit and bring joy to others and volunteered in numerous ways.
