Our executive leadership team possesses the skills, experience, and passion needed to maintain Uplands Village as an integral part of the Cumberland County community for the past 100 years and into the future.

Marshal Huddleston
President/CEO

Marshal Huddleston serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Uplands Village, bringing over 20 years of dedicated leadership experience in long-term care across Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. Throughout his distinguished career, he has focused on moving beyond simple operational improvements to build a “culture of significance” that creates a lasting, positive impact. This vision aligns seamlessly with the Eden Alternative philosophy, a person-directed and relationship-centered approach that has long been the cornerstone of the Uplands Village mission.

Huddleston firmly believes that strengthening organizational culture is the essential catalyst for advancing these core principles of individuality and meaningful engagement. He often emphasizes that culture growth is a necessity, noting that a vibrant and empowering environment is exactly what the community needs to thrive. By prioritizing this cultural evolution, he ensures that the Eden mission remains a living, breathing reality for every resident. Under his guidance, the focus remains on creating a legacy that honors the unique purpose of every individual within the community. Huddleston maintains that when the culture is right, excellence naturally follows in every area of care and service. Ultimately, his leadership is dedicated to building a future for Uplands Village that is as vibrant and purposeful as its historic legacy.

Cynthia Smith
Director of Finance

Cynthia brings over 20 years of experience, primarily in healthcare and property management. She joined the Uplands Village team in 2017 and is committed to the success of the community and its residents. Cynthia is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She lives in Crossville, Tennessee, with her husband and enjoys travel, watching sports, and spending time with family.

Scott Parks
Director of Maintenance

Scott is the Director of Maintenance at Uplands Village and comes from a building maintenance background specializing in ground, electric, and plumbing. Over the past 37 years, Scott has dedicated his expertise and time at Uplands Village while expanding on his licensures. During his tenure with Uplands, he has completed his license in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, IT and is currently working on his license for wastewater management. In 2016, Scott was the Project Manager for the renovation of our top-notch Wellness Center. The thing he loves most about working at Uplands Village is getting to know each resident and helping everyone he can in this community. 

Scott was raised in Pleasant Hill and loves to spend his time outside of Uplands Village camping, spoiling his two dogs, Dutton and Pepper, attending woodcraft shows, working on his farm with his beef cattle, building onto his antique car collection, and riding his motorcycle with his wife of 23 years, Tamara.

Keith Mills
Director of Marketing

Keith is the Director of Marketing at Uplands Village. He has an extensive background in customer service, marketing, and sales. It is his duty to design and implement a marketing strategy that will promote Uplands Village not only locally but also nationally. Making sure all areas of the campus are well represented and advertised is Keith’s daily goal. One of his favorite things about Uplands Village is getting to meet the residents and talk to them about the paths that led them to this great community. 

Keith was born and raised in Spencer, TN. He has traversed the country and worked in many different states. He is also active in Rotary and Habitat for Humanity. When he isn’t thinking of something marketing related, you can find him spending time with his wife, acting like he knows what he’s doing at the gym, eating chocolate, learning useless trivia facts to randomly disperse to a most often unimpressed audience, and petting every dog that he meets. 

Deonna Turner
Director of Rehab

Deonna is the Director of Rehab at Uplands Village. While in college at Roane State, she enjoyed working as a Dental Assistant for eight years and a caregiver in the home care industry. This experience gave her a deep appreciation of how to improve the lives of others. 

Deonna graduated from Nashville States Occupational Therapy Assistant Program in 2014 and landed her first job as a COTA/L, Director of Rehab at Uplands Village. She has a passion for helping others, loves to hear their stories, and loves to hear others’ “secrets to life.” 

Deonna is a native of Crossville, Tennessee, has been married to her husband, Kirk, for four years, and together they have twin girls, Wylder and Wrenley. Deonna feels it is a beautiful thing when a passion and a career come together.

Amanda Waldo
Manager of Memory Care

Amanda Waldo has been in the healthcare field for 22 years. She spent the first 3 as a CNA. Her last 19 years have been as a nurse. While caring for long term / skilled patients she had a focus on wound care. She joined Uplands Village in 2022. In 2024 she was promoted to Memory Care Manager. 

Amanda has two daughters, Bailee and Kayla, and loves animals. When she is not being awesome at Uplands Village she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, crafting, being outdoors, and working on her farm where she raises black angus cattle.

Jennifer Selby
Principal Broker

A Pleasant Hill native, Jennifer Selby’s connection to Uplands Village is lifelong. Her journey within the community began in high school as a resident sitter and has evolved over an impressive 11-year professional career. Before stepping into her role as Principal Broker, Jennifer gained a comprehensive understanding of the village by serving in development, accounting, and marketing.

Jennifer views her work as a joyful honor, guiding residents through one of life’s most significant transitions. Driven by the mantra to “go all in,” she is known for her deep accessibility, often sharing her personal number to ensure she is always available for those she serves. Whether she’s navigating a complex real estate transition or working to fill every home on campus, Jennifer’s focus remains firmly on the people who make Uplands a community.

Angie Graczyk
Admissions Coordinator

Angie is the Admission Coordinator for Uplands Village Long Term Care and Rehab Center.

She graduated from Tennessee Technology Center in Crossville as an LPN in 2008. She has worked in many different areas of nursing since obtaining her Nursing license 18 years ago, and feels at home with Rehabilitation and has a passion for helping others. She enjoys watching patients get stronger and be able to return home to family and friends.

Angie has lived in Tennessee her whole life here on the Plateau. Angie has been married to her husband Chris for 32 years, and together they have 2 daughters Kristin and Karrissa, who are both now married with families of their own. They have 3 grandsons, Easton, Christopher, and Lane. One precious granddaughter Magnolia (Maggie). Angie enjoys spending time with her family, boating and riding RZR when she is not working.

Jessica Holland
Home Health Manager/Eden Educator

Jessica Holland has served in healthcare for 13 years, with the past 11 years dedicated to Uplands Village. During her time here, she’s had the opportunity to work in all areas of the community, but her heart truly belongs to Home Health and IL residents. Nursing is more than a profession to her-it is a true calling and where she feesl most fulfilled. Jessica is also an Eden educator. The Eden alternative is what makes Uplands the best place to live and work! 

Outside of work, Jessica cherishes spending time with family and friends. She enjoys camping, kayaking, going to church, and working in her flower beds. She and her husband Kevin love to travel whenever they get the chance. She has 2 children, and 1 grandchild, who brings absolute joy to her life. 

Dorothy James
Director of Nursing

Dorothy James proudly serves as the Director of Nursing at Uplands Village, bringing nearly two decades of diverse clinical and leadership experience to her role. A nurse since 2006, Dorothy’s journey into healthcare was preceded by meaningful work in special needs development and job training—an experience that helped shape her compassionate, people-centered approach to leadership.

She earned her Associate of Nursing degree from Lincoln Memorial University and went on to complete both her BSN and MSN at Chamberlain University. Throughout her career, Dorothy has built an impressive clinical background, including nine years in Emergency Room nursing and nine years as a CCU Lead RN. She also served as a Nurse Retentionist and Administrator at a long-term acute care hospital (LTACH), where she combined her passion for mentorship with operational leadership.

Dorothy is deeply committed to professional growth and excellence in nursing practice. She enjoys learning new skills and staying current in the ever-evolving field of healthcare. As an active member of the American Nurses Association, she remains engaged with the broader nursing community and committed to advancing the profession.

Born and raised in Southeastern Kentucky, Dorothy is proud of her roots and cherishes time spent with her family across the Bluegrass State. She has three children—Ryan, Brittany, and Carson—who mean the world to her. She also shares her life with her significant other, Brian, who is originally from Crossville, Tennessee. Outside of work, she enjoys the thrill of horse racing and is especially passionate about caring for and spending time with animals.

Dorothy’s blend of clinical expertise, leadership experience, and heartfelt compassion makes her an invaluable leader and advocate for both residents and staff at Uplands Village.

Mahala Miller
Activities Director

Mahala Miller serves as the Activities Director at Uplands Village, where she leads with creativity, compassion, and a deep commitment to purposeful living at every stage of life. With multiple years of experience in senior living, Mahala designs and oversees innovative recreational programming that strengthens community, nurtures dignity, and brings meaningful engagement to residents each day. She has a particular passion for developing specialized programs for individuals living with dementia, creating environments where connection, joy, and identity are preserved and celebrated. As a State Certified Activity Director, Board Certified Activity Professional, and Certified Nursing Assistant, Mahala combines clinical insight with visionary leadership to shape a vibrant and inclusive culture within the community.

A proud native of Little Crab, Tennessee, Mahala’s love for family and community fuels her work. She is happily married and the devoted mother of two young daughters. Outside of Uplands Village, she enjoys reading, painting, and spending time outdoors. She also participates in creative and restorative pursuits that reflect the intentionality she brings to her professional life. Mahala believes that senior living should be more than care—it should be rich with purpose, beauty, and belonging.

David Shanks
Director of Human Resources

David has worked with Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living communities for 14 years in human resources and occupational safety management and consulting roles at corporate, regional, and front-line levels. In these roles he has guided teams on topics such as onboarding documentation, conflict resolution, team building, orientation topics, pre-employment screenings, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) compliance, root-cause analysis, DOT compliance, and federal and state life safety compliance. He is a servant leader with a heart for teammates, residents, and family (wife Cari and son Sam) as well as a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. His hobbies include fishing, chess, tennis, gardening, and any sport where the team wears the orange and white of the University of Tennessee. Other hobbies of interest include Taekwondo and ballroom dancing.

Nicole Miles
Campus Administrator

Nicole Miles serves as Campus Administrator at Uplands Village, where she oversees services and support for Independent Living residents across the campus. Since joining Uplands in February 2023 as receptionist at the Wellness Center, Nicole has held several roles and built strong relationships with residents and staff. Today she serves as a central point of contact for Independent Living residents, helps welcome new members of the community, and works with teams across the village to develop activities, classes, events, and amenities that enrich campus life. She also serves as Executive Assistant to the CEO and obtained her Tennessee real estate license in 2025, supporting Uplands Village Real Estate as a backup agent. Born and raised in Minnesota, Nicole has lived in 13 states and brings a diverse background that includes property management and animal rescue, along with a degree in Animal Health. She has one son who lives in Nashville and shares her home with her cat, Tommy. Nicole values the connections she has built at Uplands and enjoys serving the residents and colleagues who make the community such a special place.

Rebecca Young
Assisted Living Director

Rebecca Young has served in the healthcare field for 27 years. She began her career working in a surgeon’s office running the front desk. She was promoted and transferred to the hospital setting, leading the marketing department and senior program, before serving 17 years as Director of Business Development at a skilled nursing facility. Rebecca joined the Uplands team in June of 2025. Rebecca believes caring for seniors is more than a profession, it is a calling. She is passionate about enriching their lives with compassion, purpose, and love.

Rebecca lives in Sparta with her husband of 26 years, Brandon. Together they have three children — Trenton, Ella, and Kamille, whom they adopted at age 17 — and one precious grandson, Kohen. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her family and her dog, Ollie, and strives to live out her faith in both her personal and professional life.

Michael J. Readinger,
 MBA | Board Chair (2nd term 7/1/2025-6/30/2028)

Chair of Executive Committee, Member of Audit Subcommittee, Finance

Michael (Mike) Readinger joined the Uplands Board of Directors in July 2022. He resides in Cleveland, OH, and Palm Springs, CA. As a retired (2022) Faith-Based Health Care Association executive, he brings extensive knowledge of the landscape in which senior care organizations like Uplands function. His MBA in Finance led to a career as an investment professional who developed important skills in managing endowment funds. He has served on many national boards and has worked for a nonprofit board, which provides deep understanding of the difference between governance and management. He served as Vice President and then President/ CEO at the Council for Health and Human Service Ministries of the United Church of Christ in Cleveland, OH, for 17 years. During that time, he made many trips to the Uplands campus and has worked closely with five of the past leaders in addressing the organization’s needs and concerns.

Holly Hanson,

Holly Hanson is the Director of the Cumberland Business Incubator, a program of Roane State Community College’s Cumberland County campus, where she serves over 780 entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Upper Cumberland region and beyond. She has extensive experience in the Aerospace, Machine Tool, and Cutting Tool industries, having held leadership roles including Manager of Purchasing, Manager of Project Management, Manager of IT, Engineering Manager, Automotive Business Unit Manager, and President of Ingersoll GmbH, an international division of Ingersoll International. Holly is a founder of the EIGERlab, a manufacturing and technology-based incubator, and served as Executive Director of the SBA-funded Women’s Business Center EDGE within the EIGERlab in Rockford, Illinois. A serial entrepreneur, she has started more than a dozen successful businesses. She is a Licensed Professional Business Coach, Certified Executive Coach, and Certified Retirement Coach, and holds a BS in Mathematics, an MS in Management, a Lean Manufacturing certificate, and Series 7 and Series 63 designations.

Tanya Hahn

Tanya Hahn is beginning her first year and term on the Uplands Village Board. She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer of Wexner Heritage Village, a Columbus, Ohio nonprofit, Jewish faith-based, full continuum of care senior living campus that includes a community hospice agency and two senior low-income affordable housing properties, generating total revenues of approximately $25 million per year. Tanya previously served as CFO of National Church Residences, a Columbus-based nonprofit senior living and affordable housing provider with revenues exceeding $340 million, operations in 24 states, and a $130 million foundation. She also spent 25 years as a nonprofit investment banker, structuring around $2 billion of tax-exempt and taxable financing for nonprofit senior living organizations, hospitals, and colleges and universities, primarily in the Midwest. Her career began in public accounting and corporate tax and audit work for an international manufacturer and university.

In addition to her professional experience, Tanya has served on numerous nonprofit senior living and healthcare organization boards and currently holds the roles of Vice Chair and Finance Committee Chair of the Mount Carmel Health System Board, a $2 billion annual revenue hospital, insurance, and nursing college subsidiary of Trinity Health in Novi, Michigan. She brings expertise in accounting, tax, investment management, and senior living operations to her board service with Uplands. Tanya is married with two grown children and four grandchildren, and she resides in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.

Jinger Loggins,
RN, MBA, BSN | Board Secretary (1st term 7/1/2024-6/30/2027)
Member of Compliance, Development, and Nominating/Governance

Jinger Loggins, beginning her first year on the Uplands Village Board, brings over 27 years of progressive health care leadership experience. She served 12 years as Executive Director of Cumberland Ridge Assisted Living, implementing strategic initiatives to enhance resident care and satisfaction, and was Vice President of Cumberland Medical Center from 2006 to 2011, where she directed risk management and performance improvement strategies while ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards. Prior to that, she was Director of Case Management and Quality Services at Cumberland Medical Center, leading case management and quality-improvement initiatives, optimizing patient care outcomes, and maintaining regulatory compliance. With extensive expertise in risk management, performance improvement, and health care operations, Jinger is well-positioned to contribute to the strategic direction and governance of Uplands Village. She resides in Crossville, TN.

Nancy Ackley | Member (2nd term 7/1/2025-6/30/2028)
Chair of Development (Chair), Member of Nominating/Governance

Nancy Ackley is serving the first year of her second term on the Uplands Village Board, having previously served as a representative from the Ohio Conference of the UCC from 2005 to 2007. She brings 45 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, including positions at nonprofit Continuing Care Retirement Communities, and spent the last 15 years of her career as a consultant focused on capital campaigns for local UCC churches. Nancy held the Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credential for 30 years and spent 10 years as a United Methodist missionary in Argentina. She first became familiar with Uplands when family members moved there as independent living residents. Along with her spouse, Rev. Curt Ackley, a former member of the UCC Council for Health and Human Services Ministries (CHHSM), she developed strong connections to both Uplands Village and the UCC, making Uplands her home in 2017.

George Chitiyo, PhD | Member (2nd term 7/1/2024-6/30/2027)
Chair of ESS and Chair of Nominating and Governance, Member of What If Task Force

George Chitiyo is beginning the first year of his second term on the Uplands Village Board. He is a Professor of Educational Research at Tennessee Technological University and holds a PhD in Program Planning and Evaluation from Tennessee Tech University. With expertise in research design, program evaluation, and statistical analysis, he supports data-driven decision-making for program improvement. George previously served as a consultant to Uplands Village in 2018–2019, providing evaluation support related to Eden Alternative training for staff. He resides in Cookeville, TN.

Debbie Douglas, MDiv | Board Member (1st term 7/1/2025-6/30/2028)
Member of Compliance and of President/CEO Search Committee

The Rev. Deborah Douglas has long-standing ties to Uplands Village, having been connected to the community since moving to Cumberland County in 1977. Her parents became Uplands members in 2002 and remained in the community until their deaths in 2012 and 2016. Deb joined Uplands staff in 2004 to assist with fundraising for the new Wharton Nursing Home and served in Development and Communications until 2008. That fall, she enrolled in Eden Theological Seminary and was ordained in the United Church of Christ in 2012. She returned to Uplands in 2016 as chaplain, also assisting with funds development, and retired in 2018. Deb and her husband Steve have two children: their son Zach, who lives in Florida with his wife and two children, and their daughter Alex, who lives in Norway.

Stephen M. Masterson, JD | Board Member (1st term 7/1/2025-6/30/2028
Chair of Compliance, Member of ESS, What If Task Force, and Nominating/Governance

Stephen (Steve) Masterson is beginning his first full term on the Board. He is the past President of the Assembly Council, which represents Uplands residents; in that role, he held a non-voting Board seat (“voice but not vote”). As a retired lawyer, who has served on nonprofit boards for nearly 50 years, he brings extensive legal and practical experience to the Board. He has lived in Uplands since 2020.

David Mitchell, PhD | Board Member (1st term 7/1/2025-6/30/2028
Member of Compliance and of ESS 

David Mitchell is beginning his first term on the Uplands Village Board. He is a Distinguished Professor of Political Economy and Director of the Institute for the Study of Political Economy at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. His research focuses on state-level public finance, entrepreneurship policy, and health regulation, bringing both an inquisitive mind and strong data expertise to his board service. David is connected to Uplands Village through his parents, Tom and Clarice Mitchell, who have been members since 2017.

Kim Wood, MDiv | Board Member (1st term 7/1/2025-6/30/2028)
Member of Compliance and of Nominating/Governance

The Rev. Kim (Kimerly) Wood has served as a Minister of the Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ (UCC) since September 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Aurora University and a Master of Divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary. Through her work with congregations, Kim brings expertise in transition, conflict resolution, and revitalization across suburban, urban, and rural settings. Connected to Uplands Village’s roots in the American Missionary Association and Congregational Church, now continued in the UCC, she contributes valuable insight to the community. Kim resides in Huntsville, AL, with her spouse, Ron, and they have four children and two grandchildren.

Thelma Kidd, MSW

Member of Compliance, President/CEO Search Committee, and Nominating/Governance

Thelma Kidd is President of the Uplands Member Assembly Council and serves as an ex officio member of the Uplands Village Board, holding a non-voting “voice but not vote” seat. The Assembly Council provides a forum for residents to participate in decision-making related to procedures, plans, and programs affecting the community, promotes discussion of issues and opportunities, maintains open communication with the Board and Administrative staff, and offers services designed to enrich life at Uplands Village.

A Texas native, Thelma lived in Nashville for over 40 years before moving to Uplands in 2024. She earned a master’s in social work from the University of Michigan and worked as a family and individual therapist before becoming co-owner of Davis-Kidd Booksellers, which expanded to multiple locations in Tennessee. After selling Davis-Kidd in 1997, she returned to counseling and became a certified life coach, specializing in helping people navigate life transitions. Thelma is also a licensed realtor and actively volunteers, having served on the Nashville Chamber of Commerce Board, participated in Leadership Nashville, and held the role of Chair for six years on the Board of the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, TN. She has an adult son and daughter, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter who is a freshman at Sewanee-University of the South.
